Work with Jason

I work with founders, CTOs, engineering leaders, and technical teams on consequential AI and systems problems where the architecture is unclear, the constraints are real, or getting the answer wrong will be expensive.

My role is usually not to add another pair of hands to a backlog. It is to clarify the system, identify the critical decisions, pressure-test assumptions, and help build or de-risk the path forward.

Engagements

Three ways to buy principal-level technical judgment in a bounded amount of time. Each one is priced against the answer it produces, not against hours logged.

Architecture & Risk Review

A focused review for teams approaching a consequential technical decision — before the wrong decision becomes expensive.

Typical questions

  • Is the proposed AI architecture actually appropriate for the problem?
  • Where are the reliability, scaling, inference-cost, security, or evaluation risks?
  • What should be built internally versus purchased?
  • Which assumptions need to be tested before the team commits months of engineering time?
  • How should the system change under latency, hardware, network, privacy, or deployment constraints?

What I need

Architecture and documentation, code access where appropriate, and interviews with two to four people.

Deliverable

System and architecture map, constraint and assumption analysis, prioritized technical risks, model/inference/data/evaluation assessment, build-vs-buy analysis, a 90-day technical roadmap, and an executive debrief.

Typical engagement

2–4 weeks

Investment

$8K–$15K

AI Systems De-Risking Sprint

For systems where the critical uncertainty needs to be resolved experimentally rather than debated.

Typical questions

  • Can this architecture actually meet its latency, reliability, security, cost, and scale requirements?
  • Which assumption fails first, and how do we find out cheaply?
  • Does the workflow need agency, or does it need orchestration?
  • What does the system do after a partial failure?
  • Is the evaluation strategy capable of detecting the failures that matter?

What I need

Working access to the system, the team owning it, and the requirements it has to survive.

Deliverable

Isolated high-risk assumptions, investigated alternatives, prototypes along the critical path where useful, and a recommended architecture with an implementation plan.

Typical engagement

4–8 weeks

Investment

$15K–$30K

Fractional Principal Architecture

Ongoing senior technical support for organizations that need another principal-level mind, not another full-time executive.

Typical questions

  • Who adjudicates when the team has three competing architectures?
  • Who attacks a design before six months of engineering are committed to it?
  • Who tells the founders whether the technical story is real?
  • Who mentors the senior engineers without absorbing their backlog?

What I need

A weekly architecture session, asynchronous design review within an agreed response window, and access to the decisions that matter.

Deliverable

Architecture review and design criticism, AI/ML strategy, difficult technical decisions, prototyping and research where it settles an argument, technical diligence, and mentorship of senior engineers — with capacity reserved for your system rather than a bucket of hours to spend down.

Typical engagement

Scoped one month at a time

Investment

$10K–$15K / month

Indicative USD fees. Exact scope, access requirements, working windows, and delivery dates are agreed before an engagement begins.

How engagements work

These constraints are what keep the work good. They are stated up front so nobody has to discover them mid-engagement.

Scope is bounded and written down
Engagements have a defined question, a defined deliverable, and an end. Scope changes are handled as scope changes.
Asynchronous by default
Written architecture work beats a standing meeting. Calls cluster into a small number of days rather than scattering across the week.
Deliberately few clients
No more than two engagements at a time. This is what makes the judgment worth buying.
Not a ticket factory
No on-call rotation, no all-day availability retainer, no people-management expectation. Same-day response is an agreed exception, not the default.

Send me the problem and the constraints.

The strongest opening message is a concrete description of what you are building, what it has to survive, and what will go wrong if the architecture is wrong. A polished pitch is not necessary.

If you already have a clean specification and simply need implementation capacity, I am not the highest-leverage fit, and I will tell you so quickly.
